Student Career Days 2012: Through the Eyes of a Participant

PLANET Student Career Days has come and gone for 2012.  Thinking back to a few months ago…it was filled with fun, excitement, intensity, late nights and early mornings but what a great success it was.  The Pennsylvania College of Technology team started its 1,161 mile journey to Manhattan, Kansas, two days before the events of [...]

…and that’s a wrap!

Congratulations to every student, sponsor, and PLANET individually and collectively.  The 35th Annual Student Career Days is in the record books!  Special congratulations to BYU-Provo for their first place finish.  Michigan State can take great pride in second place and I know that BYU-Idaho is equally proud of their third place totals.
Here at Chattahoochee [...]

In the blink of an eye!

Only yesterday the opening ceremonies began and already it seems like we have been here forever… or for just the blink of an eye!  I should have taken notes because by now I can’t remember all of the things I learned.
Judith Guido was a super informative Keynote Speaker.  Practical ideas about personal branding were the [...]

…and so it begins!

My brain has been waking me up every hour or two and so I have given up the fight. Yesterday was a whirlwind of activity.  The Chattahoochee Tech TeamPLANET left the Acworth, Georgia, North Metro Campus at 5:15 a.m. We were saddened that at 5:00 a.m. teammate Nanci Lee got a phone call and had to [...]

Uniqueness of PLANET’s Student Career Days

The uniqueness of PLANET’s Student Career Days (SCD) does not escape me. There is nowhere else I know that students have the chance to test their skills in realistic industry situations with the full support of potential employers and current educational mentors. Sort of a crash course internship while still in the comfortable cocoon of a supportive family.  [...]

Seeing is Believing

You know the old saying, “You don’t know what you’re missing until ….” Well, that phrase certainly applies when talking about PLANET’s Student Career Days (SCD). This is one of those things PLANET does extremely well, and that leaves other national associations amazed when they learn about it. This very special and unique event brings [...]

Thank you Student Career Days!

Another year of Student Career Days come and gone! After competing in my events and watching my teammates and other members of my industry compete, it was exciting to find out which school would win. Congrats Chatahoochee Technical College for doing such an excellent job!

Yet again I was able to experience the excitement for my [...]

Student Career Days - from a grad assistants’ perspective

When I was contacted about writing a blog entry about PLANET’s Student Career Days (SCD), I was quite surprised. I’m too old to compete in the events and don’t understand how my point of view might be helpful, but here goes nothing…

SCD 2010 was the fourth consecutive year I attended, and the second year that [...]

SCD 2010 exudes high energy and enthusiasm

Wow! Yesterday was the first day of Student Career Days and there was so much enthusiasm and energy! Of course, SCD is an excellent opportunity to meet other students of the green industry as well as with employers, but this year has had an unprecedented amount of energy and enthusiasm! The Opening Ceremonies was extremely exciting to be [...]

Students Should Take Twitter for a Drive

This week in Atlanta there are hundreds of college students representing horticulture-based programs from across the county that are converging on the campus of the Chattahoochee Technical College for the annual Student Career Days that is sponsored by PLANET - The Professional Landcare Network.
This event is a friendly competition where [...]
